Recognising education as an important tool for empowerment, Saraswati Shishu Mandir, supported by Essar Power MP Limited, has introduced the higher secondary classes 11 & 12 for all students. The school is set in the rehabilitation colony of Nandvihar.
Earlier, the school catered to students up till class 10, in which free education was provided to children of those displaced by the company. Despite 1,100 children being enrolled in the school, the children couldn’t pursue higher education as the school didn’t have the certifications, and dropouts increased as the next available school was located over 40km away.
The importance of further education was pressed upon the management through parents and Saraswati Vidya Parishad. Under the direction of Mr Kush Singh (MD – Essar Power MP Limited) and Mr Ajay Kumar Sinha (COO – Mahan site), Mr Rajesh Singh (Head HR) approached Vidya Bharti Mahakaushal province, Jabalpur, to procure the required permissions for the school to commence classes 11 & 12 from the new teaching session.
“This was a new initiative for me but the support lent to me by the senior leadership team and my HOD was unparalleled. I was given a free hand to operate and innovate in the CSR wing. I’m sure we will continue to build goodwill for the business in the future through such initiatives” – Mr Pankaj Prabhat Dubey, CSR Department, Mahan.
