At the heart of every act of kindness lies the power to transform lives. This week, at the All India Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AIIPMR), Mumbai, that transformation took the form of 25 customized wheelchairs — thoughtfully donated by Essar Foundation.
Each wheelchair was more than just equipment. It was a symbol of freedom, dignity, and renewed hope for individuals who have lived with lifelong physical challenges — many of them immobile since birth. Among the recipients were 10 young children and 15 young adults, all battling conditions such as cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, congenital deformities, and other locomotor disabilities.
For their families, these challenges extend far beyond a medical diagnosis. Many parents, often from underserved communities, have been carrying their children — quite literally — through every stage of life. A simple trip to school, a hospital visit, or even stepping out into the world has meant lifting their loved ones in their arms, day after day.
The wheelchairs, customized for each recipient’s needs, were truly life-changing gifts.
Dr. Anil Kumar Gaur, Director, AIIPMR, said, “I am grateful to Essar Foundation for coming forward to support and donate the wheelchairs over the past few years, which are a primary need of the hour for patients and parents. Your kind and generous gestures will make a world of difference to them.”
Dr. Anjana Neglur, Assistant Director, AIIPMR, added, “Post-Covid, Essar Foundation has come forward and helped us reach out to all these needy patients over the years through their support and contribution. We are grateful to Essar Foundation for their kindness and compassion.”
Representing Essar Foundation at the event were Dominic D’Souza, Tej Singh Barwa, along with Girish Patki, Kedari Pawar, and Ravindra Shirsat. Their presence reflected more than participation — it showed deep solidarity with every parent, child, and patient present.
At Essar Foundation, we believe that true impact lies in restoring dignity and enabling possibility. Through our ongoing partnership with AIIPMR — the apex national institute for physical rehabilitation — we remain committed to supporting individuals with disabilities, not just through aid, but through empathy and empowerment. Because when we enable someone to move freely, we don’t just change their world — we uplift everyone around them.
