Ultra Gas & Energy Ltd (UGEL), a key player in Essar Group’s green mobility initiative, participated in the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Seminar on “Building Infrastructure for a Gas-Based Economy”, held on June 6, 2025. The event convened top industry leaders, government officials, and infrastructure experts to chart the roadmap for India’s transition to cleaner, gas-based energy solutions.
As part of a high-level panel on “Decentralised LNG – Unlocking Access for India’s Industrial Growth”, UGEL’s Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Maqsood Shaikh, joined leaders from ExxonMobil, Indian Oil Corporation, Pipeline Infrastructure Ltd, THINK Gas, and India Gas Solutions to deliberate on strategies to broaden LNG access for industries across India.
In his address, Mr. Shaikh emphasised the pressing need to extend clean fuel supply to India’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)—a sector that contributes 27% to the national GDP yet remains underserved by traditional piped gas infrastructure. He said, “India’s MSMEs are powering economic growth but remain locked into high-emission fuels. We need decentralised LNG solutions to bridge this gap.”
Mr. Shaikh showcased UGEL’s work in deploying virtual pipelines, micro-LNG terminals, and regional LNG delivery hubs that enable fuel access even in remote industrial zones. UGEL’s flexible offerings—including LNG-as-a-Service, pay-as-you-go fuel models, and mobile regasification units—are tailored to meet the needs of smaller industries seeking to reduce emissions without compromising operational efficiency.
He also called for greater public-private collaboration to unlock growth in this sector. “Supportive frameworks such as viability gap funding, green finance, and shared infrastructure are critical to scaling LNG adoption across India,” he added.
The panel discussion highlighted a shared vision: leveraging decentralised LNG to drive industrial expansion while advancing the country’s decarbonisation agenda.
As India accelerates its shift to a gas-based economy, UGEL continues to position itself at the forefront, delivering practical and scalable clean energy solutions aligned with national sustainability and energy security goals.
