Essar Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Ltd. has always aligned its CSR initiatives with Sustainable Development Goal 03 – Good Health and Well-being, focusing on the evolving healthcare needs of communities in Kanksa and Durgapur-Faridpur Block of Paschim Bardhaman district, West Bengal.

Recognising the growing challenges in eye health among the elderly, Essar recently launched “Nayan Jyoti”, a program aimed at restoring vision through free eye check-ups and cataract surgeries. The initiative brings high-quality healthcare directly to villages, in collaboration with the Lions Club Welfare Trust, Durgapur, a renowned eye-care institution.

Since its launch in November, Nayan Jyoti plans to conduct 100 cataract surgeries across six camps over five months. Already, 41% of the target has been achieved, with the first two camps successfully held in Kantaberia and Malandighi villages. The first camp identified 29 beneficiaries, and the second served 12 residents.

The initiative provides free power spectacles to patients after surgery, along with one-night hospitalisation and two follow-up check-ups within 30 days. In addition, routine health screenings, including blood pressure and diabetes checks, were conducted for all attendees.

The response has been remarkable, with 187 villagers from 17 villages participating in the first two camps. The turnout highlights the urgent need for accessible eye care and reflects the meaningful impact of Essar’s CSR initiative.
Through Nayan Jyoti, Essar is restoring sight, bringing hope, improving lives, and reaffirming its commitment to healthier, thriving communities.
