India Maritime Week 2025, one of the premier global maritime gatherings, unfolded in Mumbai, attracting leaders, innovators, and experts from across the world. Themed “Uniting Oceans, One Maritime Vision,” the week-long conclave showcased the latest advancements in maritime technology and foster collaboration across the global shipping and logistics ecosystem.

The event was inaugurated by Hon’ble Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, in the presence of Hon’ble Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Chief Ministers Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Shri Bhupendra Patel, Dr. Pramod Sawant, and Shri Mohan Majhi, Deputy Chief Ministers Shri Eknath Shinde and Shri Ajit Pawar, and Hon’ble Minister of State Shri Shantanu Thakur.
Speaking at the inauguration, Shri Amit Shah remarked, “This Maritime Week in Mumbai marks India’s evolution from being the Gateway of India to becoming the Gateway to the World. India aims to develop a green maritime ecosystem that accelerates progress while preserving harmony with nature. India is heading with the vision of a green, prosperous, and shared ocean.”
A key highlight of the week was a special address by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, who addressed the Maritime Leaders’ Conclave and chaired the Global Maritime CEO Forum. Reflecting on India’s maritime journey from the first Maritime Summit in 2016 to the present, he said, “When the global seas are rough, the world looks for a steady lighthouse. India is well poised to play that role with strength and stability.”
Echoing this vision, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal emphasised, “India’s ports are the gateways of Viksit Bharat,” highlighting how the nation’s port capacity has nearly doubled in just eleven years, driven by infrastructure investments, technological transformation, and strong public-private partnerships.

Essar Ports advanced its sustainability and innovation agenda at the conclave by signing three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). The company signed two MoUs with Deendayal Port Authority to develop a modern multi-cargo terminal for handling dry bulk and break-bulk cargo and to establish modern port infrastructure at Kandla, aligned with the Government of India’s Sagarmala Programme for port-led development. Additionally, Essar Ports signed an MoU with Cochin Port Authority to develop a liquid bulk handling facility at Willingdon Island, Kochi, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening India’s maritime infrastructure and driving sustainable growth.

The MoU was signed by Ashish Rajgarhia, Executive Director at Essar Ports, reaffirming Essar’s commitment to developing world-class port infrastructure and strengthening India’s maritime and logistics ecosystem. Essar Ports has invested and built projects worth ₹20,000 crore across India and overseas, totaling a capacity of 200 million tonnes per annum. Post monetisation of some of these assets, Essar today owns and operates a 60 MTPA portfolio with presence in Jamnagar, Indonesia, and the United Kingdom.

Adding to the momentum of the week, Essar Ports partnered with Maritime SheEO, a global initiative celebrating women leaders and changemakers in the maritime industry. The Maritime SheEO Conference, held as part of India Maritime Week, was a three-day event hosted meaningful conversations on diversity, innovation, sustainability, and leadership, recognising organisations and individuals championing gender inclusion in one of the world’s oldest and most vital sectors.

Essar Ports made a strong impression at the conference through its interactive photo booth themed “Essar Ports – Anchoring Sustainable Growth.” The Essar-branded booth encouraged delegates to capture and share moments, generating enthusiastic engagement and sparking conversations around sustainability, digital transformation, and inclusivity – values that define Essar’s vision for the future of maritime operations.

During the event, Anshumali Dwivedi, Whole-Time Director, CFO & Head of Strategy at Essar Ports, participated in a high-impact panel discussion on “Sustainability Across the Value Chain.” Sharing the stage with global experts, he emphasised the importance of integrating sustainable practices across port operations to build resilient, future-ready maritime ecosystems.
Essar Ports’ participation at India Maritime Week 2025 reaffirms the company’s commitment to supporting India’s blue economy, driving innovation-led growth, and contributing to the nation’s vision of becoming a global maritime powerhouse.
