Essar shares a special bond with Gujarat — a state where we have built mega projects of national importance, powered by the enterprising spirit of its people. Our association with Gujarat continues to deepen, in line with its bold vision for sustainable growth.
Over the past four decades, Essar has invested more than ₹1,00,000 crore in Gujarat, building world-class assets, contributing ₹3,500 crore annually to the state’s exchequer, and creating over 20,000 job opportunities — impacting the lives of more than a million people across the state.
Beyond business, Essar’s commitment to Gujarat runs deep through its social initiatives led by Essar Foundation, the Group’s CSR arm. For over 55 years, Essar Foundation has worked closely with communities around Salaya, Jamnagar, and surrounding areas in Gujarat, as well as in several other states across India, aligning its programs with the vision of an equitable, inclusive, and sustainable future.
Education and youth empowerment have been key focus areas. Essar has supported scholarships for meritorious students, set up computer and science labs in village schools, promoted adult education, and developed playgrounds and sports infrastructure. As part of promoting sports and community engagement, Essar sponsored the Salaya Night Cricket Tournament, which witnessed a vibrant turnout of nearly 5,000 spectators.
In healthcare and sanitation, Essar has consistently supported community health through regular medical camps, maternal and gynecological care initiatives, and pandemic preparedness. During COVID-19, Essar established a 100-bed Covid Care Centre, distributed PPE kits, oxygen generation units, and essential supplies to local communities.
Livelihood programs have empowered women through initiatives like the Salaya Stitching Centre, supported fishermen communities, provided agricultural training for farmers, and created employment opportunities for local youth and workers.
In water conservation and infrastructure, Essar has built permanent water supply structures, converted mined pits into water reservoirs, and supplied water tankers to surrounding villages.
Through environment conservation projects — such as rainwater harvesting, afforestation initiatives, greenbelt development, and industrial water recycling — Essar has championed sustainable practices in the region. Over 300,000 trees have been planted to date, strengthening the local ecosystem.
Essar’s efforts in community development are reflected in initiatives such as supporting Gaushalas, refurbishing village temples, and actively participating in Swacchta Abhiyan drives.
A major highlight was the organisation of Dwarka Padyatri Seva Camp to assist pilgrims traveling to Dwarka for Fuldol Holi Mahotsav, inaugurated by Honourable Cabinet Minister Shri Mulubhai Bera. Serving nearly 50,000 devotees, the camp provided food, water, refreshments, rest areas, and medical aid, while advancing the Zero Waste Mission in collaboration with the Gujarat Pollution Control Board and Khambhalia Nagarpalika. Over 2 lakh padyatris walked this route, reflecting Essar’s deep commitment to community service.
In times of adversity, Essar has stood by Gujarat’s communities through timely disaster relief efforts, supporting flood and cyclone-affected regions with rehabilitation and essential supplies. This resilience, embedded in our values, continues to shape our journey in the state.
As Gujarat celebrates its remarkable journey, Essar proudly reaffirms its commitment to powering economic growth, uplifting communities, and building a sustainable future for generations to come.
