At Essar, the spirit of celebration, empowerment, and camaraderie filled the air during our International Women’s Week 2024 festivities.
Under the campaign #EssarForHer, the week kicked off with an inspiring address by Ms. Priya Chakravarty, Senior Director of HR at Essar Capital, who eloquently set the tone for the event, fostering a sense of solidarity among women and highlighting the importance of celebrating their achievements and contributions.
This was followed by an enlightening session on cancer awareness by Dr. Meghal Jayant Sanghavi, D.N.B Gen. Surgery, Surgical Oncology from Wockhardt Hospital, educating our community on health and wellness.
Our celebration continued with a showcase of the entrepreneurial spirit of women-led businesses. A pop-up mart featured products ranging from food to art to fashion, proudly presented by the spouses, sisters, daughters, and mothers of Essarites, highlighting the creativity and talent within our own community.
Essar Radio also dedicated special editions during the week to highlight inspiring stories and discussions: Troyee Dasgupta shared her commitment to fostering the growth of women at Essar, inspiring others with her dedication. Santwana Swain discussed breaking stereotypes in the oil & gas industry, providing valuable insights for women navigating technical careers. Kalpana Gurumoorthy revealed the keys to success for women in organisations, offering practical advice and encouragement. Meanwhile, Poonam Shangavi emphasised the importance of women supporting each other, fostering a culture of collaboration and empowerment.
Day 2 marked the pinnacle of our celebrations, featuring an unforgettable fusion of inspiration and entertainment. The day began with Mrs. Smiti Kanodia highlighting women’s invaluable contributions to the nation, inspiring us all to make a difference.
Our keynote speaker, Mrs. Chetna Gala Sinha, shared the transformative journey of the Mann Deshi Foundation, illustrating the profound impact of united women, inspiring us to create positive change.
An internal employee’s emotional poem echoed the essence of womanhood, while engaging trivia added excitement to the event, fostering a sense of community and connection.
The event shone a spotlight on a captivating talk delivered by Col Kalyani Deshpande from the Indian Army. With compelling honesty, she delved into her experiences of shattering stereotypes, recounting her role as the sole woman amidst a unit of 70 men, all while operating in the harshest of conditions. Her narrative thumped with tales of resilience and strong leadership, painting a vivid portrait of determination in the face of adversity. Col Deshpande’s powerful words served as a reminder of the strength and commitment women bring to serving our nation.
The festivities culminated in an electrifying performance by an all-girl band, whose dynamic performance kept the audience on their toes, dancing throughout the event. With a seamless blend of classic and contemporary tunes, the band showcased the immense talent and creativity of women in the arts, leaving a lasting impression of joy and celebration.
