Recognising that education is a crucial pillar on which the upward mobility of communities rests, Essar Foundation has established multiple programmes that enable children in various locations in India to read and write. The Foundation began a school improvement programme some time ago with the objective of setting up schools in places where government and private schools are absent or inadequate. The Foundation ensures that these schools have modern classrooms, libraries, playgrounds, residential quarters and hostels.
To provide the amenity is one thing, but to encourage children, especially young female students in rural areas, to remain enrolled in the school quite another. To ensure that more and more students continue their studies, Essar Foundation rewards meritorious students with scholarships.
