In its fight against “hunger and disease” Essar Foundation reached out to Apna Ghar Ashram in Vasai, Palghar District, in providing ration and food grains and extending medical assistance and support.
Apna Ghar works for the homeless, hopeless, helpless, destitute persons generally found in harsh and painful conditions found on roadside, railway station, bus stands, religious and other public places, have been neglected by society and without food, water, and clothing, they generally go towards a lingering death. Worse, without proper treatment and wound care, they are frequently found infested with maggots. The facility provides treatment, food, clothing, personal care, medical and surgical treatments are provided free of cost with the support and generosity of society. The Ashram works towards saving the lives of these hopeless, helpless, and homeless destitute sick persons. Most of the inmates brought to the Ashram suffer from different types of ailments. Hence medical/surgical treatment plays a significant role in the services the Ashram offers, with a team of doctors – Physician, Surgeon, Orthopedic Surgeon, Pediatrician, Psychiatrist, Physiotherapist, Eye Surgeon, and Anesthetist, Psychologist and Dental Surgeon. For critical cases, arrangements are made with local hospital where investigation and treatments (medical and surgical) are provided. There are separate units for males, females, children, old age, HIV, TB and critical care, mental retardation, psychiatry, orthopedics, and asthma.
Apna Ghar is run by the Rama Ganesh Charitable Trust, comprising of 300+ bed residential facilities, kitchen, Infirmary and other facilities, providing food, clothing, medical and other necessities of life with love and care, without any charges.
Currently, Apna Ghar houses the following: Handicap-108; Blind-8; Major illness-5; Paralysis/Polio-8; Dumb-3; Ortho-8; Epilepsy-4; TB-10; Others-22; Rehab-19.
