1,000 days – starting from a woman’s pregnancy (270 days) to a child’s 2nd birthday (730 days), are most crucial for both the mother and child when utmost care is essential. Health & nutrition of the mother & offspring during this period impacts the child’s ability to grow healthy and provides essential building block for its mental development.
Essar Foundation’s health initiatives in the villages of Singrauli are meant to improve the maternal and child health indicators over the long run. The team conducts regular educational and healthcare interventions contributing to that.
A health checkup & awareness camp was recently organised in the R&R Colony, Nagwa & Choura Gram Panchayat exclusively for pregnant women. This was organised in collaboration with the Govt health department. Medicines and anti-tetanus vaccines were provided along with detailed doctor consultations. Specialist and pathologist from Essar Nagwa Health center examined the health of 73 pregnant women (BP, HB test & weight), provided iron & folic acid tablets along with nutritional supplements like calcium tablets. Anti-tetanus vaccines were administered to 58 pregnant women.
The doctor at the camp also undertook interactive sessions on appropriate pregnancy care, nutritional requirements, and importance of institutional delivery. The camp is one among the range of initiatives meant to positively help in minimizing anaemia among pregnant women and to boost institutional delivery in the area.
