Essar co-partnered with the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce – North India Council to organize the first Energy Summit held in Delhi. The event brought together esteemed members of the industry and featured the participation of key leaders from Essar including , Sunil Jain, Chairman of the Energy Committee at IACC and Operating Partner of Energy Transition at Essar Capital, Pankaj Kalra, CEO of Essar Exploration and Production Limited and Ajay Sinha, COO of Essar Power Gujarat Ltd showcasing the company’s commitment to leading the way in energy transitions. The summit shed light on the energy transition and its evolution in India’s energy mix.
The event was honoured by the presence of Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, the Honorable Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India. During his address, Mr Singh discussed India’s energy trilemma – energy availability, affordability, sustainability and confident strides in its journey towards energy self-sufficiency under visionary leadership of PM.
In the inaugural session on the Evolution of India’s Energy Mix, Sunil Jain highlighted the adverse effects of India’s reliance on fossil fuels, such as environmental degradation, air pollution, and increased greenhouse gas emissions. He emphasized India’s aim to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070 and emphasized the need for investments, technological advancements, and collaboration across sectors. Mr. Jain also commended India’s ‘Panchamrit’ Net Zero targets and presented five approaches for a greener future, including the utilization of biofuels, hydrogen, and nuclear power.
Pankaj Kalra participated in a panel discussion on “OIL & GAS – Current Geopolitics.” He highlighted India’s remarkable growth in gas production and discussed Essar’s contribution to India’s Coal Bed Methane (CBM) production. Mr. Kalra unveiled Essar’s plans to expand production and increase its overall contribution to India’s energy production. He also emphasized the importance of gas in India’s energy mix, aligning with the vision of the Prime Minister.
Ajay Sinha took part in a panel discussion on the “Role of Nuclear Power in Sustainable Energy Transition.” Mr. Sinha stressed the significance of nuclear power in the power industry and emphasized the need for careful consideration from regulators and policymakers. He expressed his support for the inclusion of nuclear power plants in India’s future energy mix. Additionally, Mr. Sinha highlighted Essar’s active incorporation of green hydrogen into its operations, particularly for the production of green ammonia, demonstrating the company’s commitment to embracing sustainable practices.
