Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme is world’s largest community based programme. The scheme is targeted at children up to the age of 6 years, pregnant and lactating mothers, and women 16–44 years of age. The scheme is aimed to improve the health, nutrition and education of the targeted community. The scheme was launched by the Govt. of India on 2nd October 1975 as part of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) program to combat child hunger and malnutrition.
A typical Anganwadi center is an integral part of the Indian public health-care system. It provides basic health care, including contraceptive counseling & supply, supplementary nutrition, and pre-school activities. Anganwadis lack skilled human resources, infrastructure and basic utility amenities & facilities.
EOGEPL undertook the responsibility of uplifting the standard of these Anganwadis by providing different types of educational materials like black board and other utility items like sataranji (Dari), hanging weighing machines, adult weighing machine, food grain container, water container, spoons, wall clock, etc. These facilities have been extended to 12 Anganwadi Centers across 6 villages each under the Durgapur Municipal Corporation area and Pratappur Gram Panchayat – both of which fall under the CBM Raniganj operational area.
The project was followed by a need assessment survey and regular meetings & visits to ICDS centers, and meetings with workers & supervisors. The Project has been widely appreciated by the Govt. officials like CDPO (Child Development Project Officer) of ICDS and the beneficiaries of the Anganwadis.
