Asad Lalljee, CEO of Avid Learning and Curator of Royal Opera House, Mumbai was invited by the Québec Ministry of Culture and Communications to participate in HUB Montréal, the international marketplace for digital creativity, held from October 20 to 22, 2025. Now in its ninth edition, the festival convenes the world’s leading producers, creators, and curators working at the intersection of immersive technology, performing arts, and creative innovation.
As part of the Immersive Immersive, a convening of performing arts organizations and immersive producers, Asad presented his provocation talk, “Immersive India: Tradition, Technology, and the Future of Culture.” He explored how India’s unique blend of tradition, innovation, and scale is shaping the next frontier of immersive experiences, both as a creative form and a cultural force.
In his presentation, Asad highlighted how India’s AVGC-XR (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality) sector, projected to become a $26 billion industry by 2030, and new initiatives such as the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT), developed with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, FICCI, CII, and global partners such as Adobe, Google, Meta, and Netflix, are building pipelines to sustain the next wave of creative talent.
Asad met with representatives from the Québec Ministry of International Relations and La Francophonie, including Alain Olivier, Directeur de la Francophonie et de la Solidarité Internationale, to discuss collaboration in the cultural technology and immersive media sectors, including the upcoming India–AI Impact Summit 2026, a major global convening to be held in New Delhi on February 19–20, 2026.
During HUB Montréal, Asad also reconnected with Cirque du Soleil, one of Canada’s most iconic cultural exports. In 2012, Avid Learning presented an engaging program titled “Cirque du Soleil: A Journey Through Physical Performance” with Artistic Scout Marc-André Roy. Asad also met with Daniel Lamarre, President and CEO of Cirque du Soleil, in August 2018, during a private dinner. Following that meeting, Lamarre had facilitated connections with Cirque’s global communications leadership, deepening a partnership that continues to inspire cultural dialogue between India and Canada.
Over the course of the three-day festival, Asad conducted over 30 strategic meetings with leading international organizations spanning diverse sectors, including immersive museums and exhibitions, immersive studios and production companies, performing arts organizations, cultural institutions, and technology companies. These discussions focused on upcoming collaborations with Avid Learning and with Royal Opera House, Mumbai exploring opportunities to bring cutting-edge immersive productions and theatrical experiences to Mumbai.
