On the occasion of World Environment Day 2024, Avid Learning hosted “3Rs of Sustainability: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle,” a panel discussion aimed at fostering meaningful dialogue and inspiring collective action towards environmental conservation. Distinguished guests, including Mr. Yaqoob Ali from Dubai Municipality and Ms. Mahnoor Haque from Alserkal Avenue, attended the event.
In her opening address, Mrs. Madhu Ruia, Founder and Chairperson of Avid Learning, highlighted the pressing environmental challenges we face, such as escalating summer heat, cyclones, and torrential rains. She emphasized the importance of our collective responsibility towards the planet. Mrs. Ruia also outlined the mission of Avid Learning, the cultural arm of the Essar Group, which has influenced 1.8 million people through 1650 programs since its founding in 2009, making it a leading arts and culture programming platform in India.
The panel discussion featured three esteemed panelists: Marita Peters, Executive Director of Surge for Water in the Middle East, who discussed community investments in safe water, sanitation, hygiene, and menstrual health solutions; Murtaza Asgar Balasinourwala, an interior designer known as the “wood doctor,” who creates artistic products from locally discarded trees and advocates for sustainable interior design; and Anu Ganesan, a homemaker and eco-friendly lifestyle blogger, who shared her practical hacks for sustainable living and zero-waste kitchen practices. The panelists shared their insights and actionable strategies for reducing waste and promoting sustainability. This successful event reflects Avid Learning’s commitment to spreading awareness on sustainability. It follows the recent participation in COP28 UAE, where Avid Learning presented two significant programs in the Green Zone at Expo City, Dubai. These programs highlighted the role of education in climate change mitigation and celebrated the cultural sustainability efforts of the Koli fishermen of Mumbai.
