“Determination has no disability” — Robert M Hensel.
Essar Foundation, in association with Surat’s Vikalang Kalyan Society Trust, organised the Freedom Cup 2018, a unique cricket tournament for the differently-abled. It is an initiative that the Foundation has been supporting and is now in its fifth year.
Like ever year, the outstanding players who participated in the tournament displayed their fierce determination to make a mark in the sport of cricket. The tournament saw stellar performances from four teams—Rajasthan, Gujarat, Surat and Haryana—with Team Gujarat emerging victorious! Dr Jagdish Patel, Mayor of Surat, was Chief Guest at the tournament. Government officials and selectors of the differently-abled Indian Cricket team were also in attendance.
Essar believes that a disability should not be an impediment to talent. The Freedom Cup provides a much-needed impetus to the differently-abled to compete and excel in sports. Freedom Cup also promotes the socially relevant message that we must learn to recognise and celebrate the phenomenal abilities of these unsung heroes.
