Essar Group participated in the conference, “Energy Security: Driving India’s Next Wave of Gas Demand,” hosted by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board, with B. C. Tripathi and Maqsood Shaikh representing the organisation across key sessions. The event brought together industry leaders to discuss strengthening India’s energy resilience amid evolving global dynamics. The sessions centred on translating global sustainability mandates into actionable strategies for the oil & gas sector, while reimagining secure and resilient energy supply chains in the face of emerging geopolitical challenges.

Speaking at the event, B. C. Tripathi highlighted that energy security must be viewed through a long-term, pragmatic lens, with India continuing to rely on imports in the near term while reducing overdependence on specific regions. He affirmed the need for a sovereign-led approach, supported by policy coherence, infrastructure development, and investments across emerging energy pathways such as green hydrogen, while ensuring alignment across sectors.

Maqsood Shaikh, while speaking at the session, spotlighted the critical role of LNG as a transition fuel, particularly in decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors such as steel, cement, and infrastructure. He highlighted Essar’s integrated approach to enabling this transition- leveraging LNG-powered trucks and expanding city gas distribution to reduce emissions across the value chain, including Scope 3 emissions. He also emphasized on the importance of last-mile connectivity and scalable infrastructure to translate sustainability ambitions into measurable, on-ground outcomes. The discussion reinforced the need for collaborative action between industry and regulators to build a resilient, future-ready energy ecosystem for India.
