The Maritime Standard organised a webinar, with participants and industry leaders from across the globe, on the impact of Covid-19 pandemic on the maritime industry. Top industry executives and leaders shared their thoughts, predictions and general mindset with an online audience.
Mr Rajiv Agarwal, MD & CEO – Essar Ports, addressed the webinar and provided a leadership perspective on the industry, highlighting what the sector can expect considering that a minimalistic attitude may drive demand in the aftermath of the lockdowns. He stressed on how businesses will have to recast their offering and models, and ensure that supply chains are made more resilient and sustainable. He suggested that ‘Distributed Manufacturing’ could be the way forward. Speaking on Essar Ports readiness to tackle the situation, Mr Agarwal talked about the company’s mechanised facilities, that ensure minimal human intervention, safe operations and social distancing in these times. Hailing his colleagues working on ground as ‘heroes’, he emphasised how all terminals of Essar Ports are completely operational and servicing customers despite the challenges faced due to the lockdown restrictions. He stresses on the role of the Government moving forward, and highlighted how they would have to help stabilising businesses and focus on kick-starting the global consumption cycle. While being optimistic about the future, Mr Agarwal spoke about the ‘Law of Karma’, and how the world will undergo a reset process, making it better and stronger!
