Essar Steel is one of the few steel manufacturers globally that is capable of producing API (American Petroleum Institute) grade steel and licensed to use the API monogram.
Recently, it bagged an order from Gas Authority of India (GAIL) to provide API 5L X-70 quality pipes for some part the 500-km stretch in the Jagdishpur-Phulpur-Haldia Pipeline Project Phase-1B.
The project is of national importance since it connects the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal, making them future-ready in terms of an oil & gas pipeline infrastructure. The project is also significant because the tendering process was conducted through a reverse auction that attracted international bidders, making it extremely competitive. The project scope involves the manufacturing and coating of the pipes, as well as delivery to the various stockpiles along the pipeline route.
With an installed capacity of 330,000 TPA, the Longitudinal Submerged Arc Welded pipe (LSAW) facility of Essar Steel possesses latest inspection and testing equipment to meet specific requirements on execution, strength, tolerance, length etc. Moreover, its hydro testing capabilities have been enhanced from 350 bar testing to 600 bar testing. When combined along with Helical Submerged Arc Welded pipe (HSAW) facility, Essar Steel has a total production capacity of 0.6 MTPA.
