Essar wants to constantly grow and build itself through its entrepreneurial spirit. To ensure that, Essar has developed various Cadre building programmes – its flagship being the Business Leadership Programme (BLP), which aims to nurture a team of young minds with fresh ideas. This year, we inducted 28 young hires from premier B-schools into the programme.
BLP serves as a talent pool for identifying future leaders for Essar and grooming them by providing differentiated learning exposures to achieve their full potential. Management graduates, with specialisations in a range of functions spanning Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Supply Chain and Operations are honed to become Essar’s BLPs.
The BLPs were welcomed by Ms Priya Chakravarthy, Head – HR Excellence and had CXOs introduce the Essar businesses. But this year, what the BLPs themselves seem to be going gaga about, are the ingenious ways in which the induction process went about to introduce them into the Essar way of life. Some of these being tried for the first time in corporate India! Induction overview got a brand avatar with the screening of the film – ‘Socha Na Tha’, and the Essar values and competencies were conveyed through a theatre performance. While BLPs got a paperless way of accessing mandatory policies through their tablets, a renowned ventriloquist & mentalist took it a step further by baffling the BLPs by presenting Essar’s policies in an intriguing manner. Further, the induction was ‘gamifyed’ through a ‘mystery box’, followed by intensive workshops on design thinking, mindfulness and work culture sensitisation.
Breath-taking night cycling experience was also organised, along with field visits to Lonavla & Hazira, to ensure that all learning isn’t just indoor. To top it all, the BLPs got to interact with Essar’s promoters Anshuman & Smiti Ruia and a heart-to-heart with the man who started it all – Shri Shashi Ruia!
Essar’s Business Leadership Programme is a well-curated and structured 9-month, fast track learning programme designed to impart practical, on-the-job learning. The program offers developmental opportunities, exposure to business value chains, opportunities to get nurtured by the senior business leaders and work on cross-functional assignments. With the two-week induction programme now drawing to a close, these youngsters are raring to take on the world!
