The Institution of Engineers (India), or IEI, is a statutory body to promote and advance engineering science and technology. Established in 1920 and incorporated by Royal Charter in 1935, IEI is the largest multi-disciplinary professional body of engineers which encompasses 15 engineering disciplines/divisions. It has a wide level of memberships and has served the nation for the last 100 years. IEI has more than half a million corporate and non-corporate members in its fold, and functions through 133 state and local centres spread across India and overseas (five chapters).
Each of IEI’s 15 engineering divisions has an apex activity called the ‘National Convention of the Engineering Division’ which is a multi-capsule event held annually. The event consists of a Memorial Lecture, and a National Seminar on the identified thrust areas approved by the Council of IEI, felicitation of eminent engineers and young engineers, etc. The 36th National Convention of Chemical Engineers of 2021 was held on March 6-7, 2021 on ‘Frontier Technologies for 21st Century process Industries’ by IEI’s Durgapur local centre. To commemorate ‘World Engineers Day for Sustainable Development’, which was observed on 4th March, Mr Santosh Chandra, CEO-Essar Oil & Gas Exploration & Production Limited (EOGEPL), was felicitated at the at the National Convention as ‘Eminent Engineer’ for his contributions to the field.
On the theme of ‘Engineering for a Healthy Planet – Sustainable Development Goals for Energy’, Mr Chandra made a presentation on ‘Energy Transition – Unconventional HC Gas’. The attendees appreciated his contributions, and the efforts put in by EOGEPL under his leadership to enhance growth and help the Nation become a gas-based economy.
