Essar Power Hazira Limited (EPHL) has been awarded the ‘Prestigious CII National Award for Excellence in Water Management 2020’ and has been identified as a ‘Noteworthy Water Efficient Unit’ in ‘Within the Fence’ Category for Waste water Reduction, Reuse and Recycle and optimization of natural resources.
This feat was achieved by an in-house developed, plant specific cooling water treatment programme, which has resulted in maintaining higher COC (cycles of concentration of 7) in the cooling tower and reducing the specific raw water intake to 2.3 M3/MW against the MOEF prescribed 3.5 M3/MW. The balance effluent water is being discharged after ensuring 100% compliance_new to the Gujarat Pollution Control Board guidelines.
As a part of scrutiny and verification, Mr Ashit Desai – Head Plant Chemistry and Water Treatment, delivered a presentation in front of the CII jury and panel members, on the initiatives & performance in water conservation and environment management done by EPHL, which was much appreciated.
During this award period, various water saving projects have saved about 2.35 million cubic metres of water.
