Essar power generation jumps 230 percent in November 2020 from peak lockdown

Electricity generation by Essar Power, one of India’s leading private power producer, jumped a massive 230 percent more from the peak lockdown days starting April 2020, mirroring the rise in overall generation in the country as removal of most C-19 related restrictions boosted power demand across industries.

As per recent government data, India’s factory output expanded at its fastest pace in over eight years in September as a relaxation in lockdowns drove a surge in demand and output.

For Q2 FY 2021, the company generated 2467 MU’s which was 15% higher that Q1 FY 2021 and 8.5% higher than the Q2 FY2020 across its power plants in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha.

And for the month of November, generation grew nearly 40 percent from October 2020 and four percent from November 2019.

Essar Power has had successful operating track record of over 25 years and operates multi-fuel power plants with a capacity of 3,245 MW in India and Canada. This includes 2,400 MW plants in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.

The company has also invested in transmission of electricity and constructed a 465-km interstate transmission line across three states in India. As power generation is an essential service, the company had been operational even during the lockdown and has been taking stringent safety precautions for all employees working on site during such time.
