Essar Foundation’s ‘Sahej’ provides 1 lakh+ sanitary napkins at Dhule and Nasik districts

Essar Foundation, the CSR arm of Essar, further expanded the reach of its menstrual hygiene initiative, Sahej, to Maharashtra’s Dhule and Nasik districts. In collaboration with National Alliance of People’s Movements (NAPM), Essar Foundation distributed over 100,000 sanitary napkins to women belonging to the migrant community and daily wage earners who have limited access to menstrual hygiene products. With this distribution, Essar Foundation has successfully provided over 7 lakh napkins across Maharashtra, Jharkhand, as well as Jammu and Kashmir.

“What Sahej has set in motion is a much needed nationwide movement towards promoting the cause of menstrual hygiene. The sole objective of this movement is to ensure every woman menstruates with dignity, safety and pride. As we gather momentum and critical mass, we are partnering with local and micro-local menstrual health bodies and specialists to ensure women, especially from marginalised communities, have access to sanitary napkins, and avoid using unsafe and unhygienic options,” said Mr Kaustubh Sonalkar, Essar’s Group President-HR, and CEO – Essar Foundation.
