The coastal cities are under tremendous pressure due to overcrowding, unplanned drainage, and littering by tourists. Often household and industrial waste finds its way into the ocean and comes back with the tide to litter the beaches. Many beaches on the East Coast are in need for regular cleaning towards protection of marine life forms.
On 15th September 2018, Essar Foundation and Essar Bulk Terminal Paradip Limited, in collaboration with Indian Coast Guard (Paradeep), marked the International Coastal Clean–up day with an elaborate coastal clean-up drive. The clean-up drive was at the Paradeep coastline, which is a beautiful stretch of beach lined with Casuarina trees, and attracts many tourists and locals. These visitors usually leave the place littered with non-biodegradable waste like wrappers, single-use plastics, and bottles.
Commandant and DIG, Indian Coast Guard Paradeep (along with his team), Mr Basant Kumar Biswal (Chairman, Paradeep Municipality), Essarites, and Students of DAV, Bethany and Central schools, participated in clearing of solid waste from the site, and encouraged the public to be environmentally responsible.
