Next Moves is our internal talent mobility program which offers Essarites career opportunities within our various businesses across geographies. It aligns organizational and individual needs and is a proactive and ongoing approach to manage careers within our Group, comprising of 64 strategic business units operating across 20 countries. More than 300 Essarites have made their next move since the inception of the program.

Next Moves Stint
The Next Moves STINT (Short Term Internships) allows Businesses to share their specific Talent requirements and invite applications from candidates across the Group. The Initiative allows Essarites across locations to apply for Cross-Business/Cross Functional STINTS (for a period of 1-3 months) which enhances their business and commercial acumen thereby providing a more holistic perspective of Essar’s Value Creation Journey. The Participants move back to their original releasing businesses post conclusion of the STINT and conclude their STINT with a Rotational Exposure Feedback and Assessment (REFA).

Coaching and mentoring is a defining aspect of leadership for us at Essar. Not only does it serve to strengthen ‘nurturing’ as a competency across our organization, but also supports the transfer and management of tacit knowledge across generations. A plethora of initiatives are periodically organized on this front, including Coaching and Mentoring Awards, Mentor-Mentee Meets and coffee sessions, among others. All our new joinees at an entry level are assigned a coach to help bring them up to speed with our unique organization culture, and for enhanced professional and personal effectiveness. In the spirit of coaching and mentoring, Essar recently launched the “Essar Expertise Locator”, an internal platform for employees to leverage the multitude of experience within the boundaries of Essar. This online platform encourages and enables Essarites to seek the expertise of senior business managers with deep functional and other expertise through a structured process / system in order to enhance on-the-job performance by providing them professional and life skills.

The Essar Group deploys a variety of Cadres programs as part of its Strategic Manpower Planning imperatives. These programs have been set up with the aim of catering to identified business needs. These programs are designed to meet general management requirements, as well as specific skill set mandated by business imperatives:

Global Leadership Program
The GLP is designed for post graduates recruited from premier international B-Schools. It is based on innovative and experiential learning pedagogy. The program offers exciting opportunities to interact with some of the finest minds – in business and technology –and experience the richness of the ethnic and talent diversity that comprises Essar. The 6 month program provides them an opportunity to participate in the growth story of an Indian multinational and exposure to emerging markets.

Business Leadership Program 
Essar’s BLP is a 9 month fast track learning program that focuses on grooming our business leaders for tomorrow. It grooms young management graduates, through coaching, mentoring and making learning opportunities available to them at an early stage. The BLP participants are a Group Resource with specializations in a range of functions spanning Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Supply Chain and Operations.

Anshumali Dwivedi, Port of Algoma CEO, was the keynote speaker during the 126th annual general meeting of the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce on 7 October 2015 where he spoke about the opportunities for business, the community, Northern Ontario, etc.

As port CEO, Dwivedi advocated the collective vision of redeveloping the Port of Algoma into a state-of-the-art commercially accessible port with a 1.4 kilometer dock area and its reflection in the creation of new jobs.
He went on to speak about the port’s first phase, which was launched last year with the help of funding from all three levels of government and Essar Steel Algoma consisted of planning and design of the project, environmental assessment and consultation with First Nations communities.The Port of Algoma is ‘now’ and shouldn’t be referred to as a ‘future project’ he stated enthusiastically as he addressed the audience.

Dwivedi holds an MBA from IIFT in New Delhi, and an honours degree in economics from Delhi University. Prior to his current assignment, he was the Head of Business Development and Investor Relations for Essar Ports Ltd. in India.

Dwivedi has extensive experience in the development of new ports, modernization programs, and in offshore oil and gas drilling and shipping. He was a part of the core team involved with setting up Essar’s port business, and growing it into one of the larger port companies in India.

Our Business Leadership Program is a nine month fast track learning program for management students from premier Indian B-schools. The program grooms young management graduates through coaching, mentoring and making learning opportunities available to them at an early stage. The BLP participants are a Group resource with specializations in a range of functions spanning marketing, finance, human resources, supply chain and operations. Many of our BLPs are currently handling critical assignments in leadership positions across the Group.

 

Graduate Executive Program

Essar’s GEP is an eighteen month General Management Program offered to the Graduates hired from premier Indian universities and degree colleges such as St Stephens, Lady Shriram College, Loyola College, St Xavier’s College, etc. The program prepares outstanding young graduates for managerial roles in an environment designed for accelerated learning, with a unique on-the job training design combined with classroom training and business projects.

 

Group Assurance and Cost Control (GACC) Cadres program
Safety Cadre Building Program is a six-month structured program designed to build a pipeline of Safety Engineers and drive the value of Safety in the organization. The selected Graduate Engineers are trained in various International Safety Standards and are placed at different plant sites as Safety Engineers to ensure safety at the workplace. The Program plays a pivotal role in institutionalizing an effective and efficient Safety system across the organization.

Health Safety Environment (HSE) Cadres Program
Safety Cadre Building Program is a six-month structured program designed to build a pipeline of Safety Engineers and drive the value of Safety in the organization. The selected Graduate Engineers are trained in various International Safety Standards and are placed at different plant sites as Safety Engineers to ensure safety at the workplace. The Program plays a pivotal role in institutionalizing an effective and efficient Safety system across the organization.

The program is designed for young Graduate Engineer Trainees (GET), recruited from various disciplines such as Civil, Instrumentation, Chemicals, Metallurgy, Electronics, Mechanical and Production. The program is spread over six months and consists of classroom and On-the-job training at the plant or project sites.

Essar Academy offers a comprehensive program designed for Diploma Engineer Trainees (DET). The program provides classroom training (6 months) and On-the-job training (18 months). The program enables DET’s to enhance their technical capabilities and develop their expertise with classroom-cum-shop floor experience. The classroom training includes exposure to safety and plant visits with interdisciplinary engineering subjects, personality development, IT Skills etc.

The Essar Academy for Steel has been established to develop a distinctive breed of ‘Essar Engineers’ by providing application engineering inputs to enable them to take up technical leadership roles early in their careers. The Essar Academy of Steel offers a two-year full time residential application engineering program for Diploma Engineers hired through campus recruitment programs.

‘You are Precious Girl’, our awarding winning diversity and inclusion initiative, focuses mainly on enabling an incubating climate of inclusion enabling career progression, cross-exposures, grooming and retention among female employees. The intervention focuses on helping develop enhanced self-esteem, assertiveness and workplace networking skills, and create spaces for introspection, reflection and self-discovery. Our high performing female employees are also assigned personal mentors who are usually senior leaders within Essar and subject matter experts / thought leaders from the industry and provide cutting edge developmental inputs to actualize their potential as leaders of tomorrow.

The past 20 years with ESSAR has been a great experience with an opportunity to work in O & M, Project Planning, Energy Management and Maintenance Planning fields of power plant.
