In order to integrate
forward from its hot rolled coils manufacturing,
The Essar Group set up a 0.4 MTPA cold rolling complex,
PT Essar Indonesia. This is one of the largest foreign
greenfield investments undertaken by an Indian corporate
group in Indonesia.
The plant incorporates the latest 6-Hi Hitachi mill
from Japan and hydrogen annealing from Ebner, Austria
to meet the high quality demands of consumers in
Indonesia. The plant includes a push-pull pickling
line with an acid regeneration plant, electrolytic
cleaning line, recoiling line, shearing and slitting
line. Essar's cold roll mill complex is designed
to produce thinner gauge products, have a high potential
in Indonesia and export markets from Indonesia.
Process Flow:
Pickling Hot rolled coils, the basic raw material for Cold rolled coils have a layer of oxide on their surface. Semi-continuous push-pull type pickling line ensures removal of surface oxides by chemical treatment using hydrochloric acid prior to the cold rolling process. The line has a side trimming facility and built-in features to avoid under / over pickling.
Regeneration & Effluent Treatment
The waste liquor from pickling line, recoiling line, electrolytic cleaning line and rolling mill are treated in effluent treatment plant ensuring pollution free environment. The acid regeneration plant ensures regeneration of hydrochloric acid from waste pickled liquor for reuse in pickling line.
Temper Rolling
Temper
rolling marginally reduces the thickness of annealed
coils so as to provide a degree of surface hardness
to prevent stretcher strains during subsequent forming
operations. It also improves the flatness of annealed
strip and imparts the desired surface roughness
to the strip.
Annealing
After cold rolling, the steel coils are hard and brittle with elongated grain structure. These coils are cleaned in an electrolytic cleaning line and annealed in a protective atmosphere in bell type annealing furnaces to ensure desired grain refinement, mechanical properties and bright surface finish.
Cold Rolling
Pickled hot
rolled coils of higher thickness are reduced to
the specified lower thickness by a computer controlled
rolling process that ensures precision in thickness,
throughout the length of the coils with perfect
flatness.
Electrolytic Cleaning Line
Cold rolled coils processed in the rolling mill have a thin film of residual rolling oil on the surface after rolling. The alkaline cleaning of cold rolled coils by the use of high current density ensures a totally clean surface of the strip before annealing.
Recoiling & Cleaning Line
Cold rolled coils from the rolling mill, having a layer of rolling oil on the surface, are cleaned in alkaline solution and then trimmed and parted into smaller coils of specified weight as per customer's requirement.
