Conferred "Most Quality Conscious Indian Shipping
Company" Award

Essar Shipping has been
conferred the "Most Quality Conscious Indian Shipping
Company" award by the National Maritime Day Celebrations
Committee. The Award was presented to the Company on World
Maritime Day on September 23, 2003 by Mr M P Pinto IAS,
Ex. Secretary to the Government of India.
The jury, which
decided on the awards, comprised DG Shipping, Chief Surveyor,
Nautical Advisor, Sr. Dy. Director General of Shipping
and members of various shipping related organisations.
With
an objective of creating the awarness of quality within
the shipping industry, under the leadership of DG Shipping,
a committee was constituted to recognise the achievements
of India Shipping Industry. This award has been instituted
this year under aegis of DG Shipping and Ministry of Surface
Transport.
Company officials, happy
to receive this recognition, stated that this is a reflection
of the Company's capabilities and commitment to maintain
highest standards of quality of operations at all times
leading to pollution free, accident free operations. They
said that this achievement has been made possible with
the total commitment of the management and the dedicated
efforts of each member of the organisation ashore and on
board.
Essar Shipping has major presence in the international
arena, being one of the leading operators of double hull
suezmax tankers in the world. Over the last decade, it
has transported over 100 million tonnes of oil over 3.5
million nautical miles without any spillage or accidents.
Thus building an enviable track record in safe and quality
operations.
Quality of operations is
the single most important criterion in evaluating a shipping
company. Essar Shipping complies with highest international
standards which is reflected in surveys and inspections
carried out by various authorities like Flag State Administration,
Port State Control Authorities in the country of port of
call, surveyors of oil majors, inspection authorities of
oil terminals, Classification societies etc. Essar Shipping's
fleet underwent 28 Port State Control inspections in foreign
ports and 10 Flag State Inspections in Indian ports during
the year. The company had no detentions during the year.
More
than 75% of Essar Shipping's revenues generate from the
international operations. ESL ships made over 60 port calls
to the US and Canada last year. These countries have some
of the most stringent regulations for tanker operations.
Essar Shipping is one
among few international shipping companies, which comply
with all the safety and other mandatory requirements as
stipulated by IMO, SOLAS etc. ESL has been conferred the
prestigious AMVER award instituted by the U.S. Coast Guard,
under the U.S. Department of Transportation in recognition
of the maritime safety standards followed by the company
and its support to the AMVER programme which promotes safety
at sea.
The AMVER award gives recognition to ships that
follow international maritime safety standards & contribute
to a global network that enables prompt rescue of ships
in distress.
Essar Shipping is a sea-logistics company
with 32 vessels with 1.35 million DWT and a diversified
fleet of tankers, bulk carriers etc.. It is a part of Rs.
17000 cr. Essar Group having presence in steel.
