Essar Shipping
Limited becomes first Indian Shipping Company to comply
with the International Ship and Port Facility Security
(ISPS) Code

Essar Shipping has successfully
completed verification audit on 22nd January 2004 on two
of its ships - MT Nandu and MT Nand Hari for complying
with the International Ship and Port Facility Security
Code (ISPS). The audit was carried out by the Indian Register
of Shipping, who are authorized by the Directorate General
of Shipping, Government of India.
The ISPS Code is a mandatory
international security regulation for ships and port facilities
worldwide, which comes into effect from 1st July 2004 as
per the International Maritime Organisation requirement.
Essar
Shipping is the first Indian shipping company to have undergone
this audit. The Company's ships have been recommended for
issuance of full term certificate by the Directorate General
of Shipping for complying with the ISPS Code. This is yet
another first in the impeccable quality track record of
Essar Shipping. It is noteworthy that Essar Shipping has
achieved this distinction much ahead of the mandatory compliance
date.
