Power's 515 MW power plant at Hazia |
| Essar
Power Limited set up India's first new generation
independent power project at Hazira, India in the
early 1990s. The 515 MW natural gas fired combined
cycle has consistently set new standards of excellence
in the Indian power sector and meets the highest
operating benchmarks. This environment friendly
plant operates with a plant availability factor
in excess of 94%. In addition to multi-fuel capability,
the plant has the lowest manpower to megawatt ratio
and one of the lowest capital costs per megawatt
in India. |
| Flexible
and efficient |
| The plant's design
and construction are world class, as confirmed by
independent international consultants. All our equipment
comes from the world's best suppliers such as General
Electric, Siemens and Honeywell. The plant is highly
efficient and flexible. Both plant availability
and the plant load factor are high and have been
improving annually. Being India's first multi-fuel
plant, it can operate simultaneously on naphtha
and gas, which will be a major advantage once LNG
becomes freely available. By switching over to LNG,
our variable costs have fallen substantially, giving
us one of the lowest cost of production in India.
The government has notified Essar Power as an infrastructure
company, giving us the advantage of lower interest
charges. |
| High automation
and skilled teams |
| Our plant is highly
automated, giving us India's lowest manpower to
megawatt ratio. Our lean, highly trained team is
one of the best technical teams in the country today
and is a key strength. Unlike other power producers
who employ separate operations and maintenance contractors
to run their power plants, our own internal team
runs Essar Power's state-of-the-art equipment such
as turbines, generators and auxiliaries with a high
degree of automation. Safety and environment management
are the top priorities at Essar Power. We are one
of the few companies to receive the 'Sword of Honour',
the British Safety Council's highest award; and
the only power plant in India to receive the ISRS
level-3 safety rating. |

block consists of some of the world's most renowned
manufacturer of power plant equipment including
General Electric, Siemens, Honeywell and Hanjung
having supplied equipment to Essar's power plant.
