Mr. A K Srivastava has been
appointed as Managing Director of Essar Power Ltd. He is
a mechanical engineer having wide experience in the power
industry. He had over 20 years of experience with him when
he joined Essar power in 1990. Earlier he had worked with
Tata Consulting Engineers and National Thermal Power Corporation.
He joined Essar Power as Vice President and worked his
way up to become Chief Operating Officer and subsequently
Chief Executive Officer. Considering his invaluable contribution
to the company during the implementation of the project
and subsequent operation of the plant successfully, the
Board of Directors were pleased to appoint him as Managing
Director.
Mr. Srivastava has been involved with the setting up of
the Company’s 515MW combined cycle power plant at
Hazira from conceptualisation, construction and commissioning
of the project. Among the achievements of Mr. Srivastava
include finalising various project contracts, plant & equipment
design, commissioning and stabilisation of plant operations,
and training of O & M personnel. |
Essar Power is the first
and one of the largest IPP to be set up in the country
after the power sector was liberalised for private sector
participation. The plant was commissioned in 1997 and since
then has been operating at a plant availability factor
of 95%. This is the one of the few plant which is operating
without any guarantee back up from either the state or
central government.
International consultants have confirmed that design and
construction is of global standrad. The plant one of the
lowest manpower to megawatt ratio. This is one of the few
companies to have been awarded the British Safety Council’s
highest award – “Sword of Honour” and
the only plant in India to receive ISRS level-3 safety
rating. The Company has been consistently performing and
earning profits since inception. Plans are afoot to reduce
the cost generation of power through alternative sources
of fuel like natural gas and the Company is negotiating
with various suppliers in this matter. |
