Overview
In 1993, Essar was one of the first private business
houses in India to participate in bidding rounds
for exploration blocks. It currently has participating
interests in several blocks in India and overseas
for exploration, production & development of
Oil, Gas & Coal Bed Methane (CBM).
The
current E&P portfolio comprises nine onshore
and three offshore blocks for oil, gas and CBM in
India, Madagascar, Myanmar and Nigeria with total
acreage of about 46,000 sq. km. in onshore and 4,600
sq. km. in offshore, held under Essar Exploration
& Production Limited, Mauritius (EEPL) a subsidiary
of Essar Energy Holdings Limited the energy sectoral
holding company of Essar Global Limited.
Our strategy is to have a balanced portfolio of
exploration as well as production assets and we
are on the constant lookout for new opportunities.
Our current geographical areas of focus are the
Indian subcontinent, the Middle East, Saharan Africa,
Sub-Saharan Africa, Russia and CIS, South-East Asia
and Australia.
Essar was the first Indian company to recognize
the CBM potential in India in the early 1990's and
undertake drilling, hydro-fracturing and de-watering
of 3 CBM wells, in the Cambay Basin, near Mehsana,
Gujarat, India. The economic viability of the project
was established through this pioneering work and
currently efforts are underway to obtain rights
for development of CBM in this area.
EEPL has setup and is also currently augmenting,
a highly enriched technical team consisting of Geologists,
Geophysicists, Petrophysicists, Petroleum Engineers,
Reservoir Engineers, Well Loggers, Project Managers,
Drillers, etc., along with a highly motivated management
team, consisting of specialists in finance, business
development, logistics, human resources, and project
consultancy. This team operates all our E&P
blocks using best international oil industry practices
with due regard to Health, Safety & Environment
and also ensuring due respect to the local socio-political
environment in the various countries of operations.
We strive to create a horizontally integrated enterprise
with full service capability including drilling
rigs, services equipment, engineering and construction
etc. and are important business segments of the
group. Essar's drilling services have been revived
with the acquisition of thirteen oil field rigs
including one coring rig (CBM) and one semi-submersible
for our in-house requirements, as well as for contractual
services. Essar is equipped with resources to analyze
geoscientific data for evaluation of prospects,
sub-surface modeling & reservoir characterization.
The Multi Discipline Team (MDT) approach facilitates
the use of resources in personnel, hardware / software
and the right alliances to adopt best practices
in exploration and development. |
