Essar bags in Madurai
Combined Water Supply project

Essar Constructions
Limited, a part of Rs.17000 cr. Essar Group, has bagged
a contract for developing a Combined Water Supply Scheme
in the districts of Madurai and Theni in Tamilnadu. The
value of the contract is Rs. 43 crores. The scope of the
work includes constructing an intake well, water treatment
plant, construction of trunk main, and distribution network.
This
project is being implemented on behalf of Tamilnadu Water
and Drainage Board (TWADB). TWADB is developing a drinking
water distribution network in Andipatti, Sedapatty, T.Kallupatty,
Chellampatty, Usilampatty Unions and Andipatty, Peraiyur,
T.Kallupatti Town Panchayats and Usilampatti Municipality.
The contract
involves laying of 750 km of pipes ranging from 32 mm dia
to 1000 dia, construction of an intake well, eight clear
water sumps with a capacity ranging from 10,000 litres
to 12 lakh litres, four pump houses, water treatment plant
with a capacity of 32 MLD, 153 nos of elevated water reservoirs
with a capacity ranging from 10,000 litres to 4 lakh litres.
On
completion of this project, about 43 villages in Andipatti
Constituency will get drinking water supply. About 320
lakh litres of water required for this purpose will be
drawn from Vaigai Dam in Andipatti.
Essar Constructions
has already mobilised the required equipments and manpower
to complete the projects in 18 months as per the schedule.
Commenting
on the project, Mr. V N Paradkar, CEO, Essar Projects said, "Our
expertise in design and execution of large composite water
supply system projects will be utilised for this project
as well".

systems on turnkey basis. In the last couple years, it
has executed drinking water supply system projects worth
over Rs. 500 crores in Gujarat alone. Considering its exemplary
work in this field, Gujarat Government has recently given
an award to Essar Constructions for its outstanding performance
in Infrastructure Projects for the year 2001-2002.
Essar
has executed projects worth over Rs. 13500 crores in the
areas of marine construction, sub-sea and cross country
pipelines, irrigation and civil projects, industrial plants
etc. It has now diversified into building of highways and
expressways. It is currently implementing a Rs. 760 crores
highway project in Karnataka for National Highway Authority
of India. This is a part of Golden Quadrilateral, a dream
project of the Prime Minister - Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee.
