On July 11, 2012, World Population Day (WPD) was marked at Mahan Power’s R&R Colony – Nand Vihar, located in Nagwa,
Singrauli (Madhya Pradesh). The event was organized by the Essar Foundation, in association
with the District Health Committee of Singrauli, with the aim of the initiative was
to spread awareness among the communities about reproductive health services and
facilities available in and around the locality.
Over 150 people (including a large number of women) participated in the event.
Dr. Pankaj Singh, BMO Khutar, addressed the audience about the effects
of overpopulation, especially the mismatch between the demand for
natural resources and supply for the same. He also talked at length about various
methods of reducing the rate of population growth.
Additionally, it being the monsoon season, the Foundation arranged for the distribution of bleaching powder and chlorine tablets among the villagers so as to help prevent the spread of water-borne diseases.
