Essar Oil, Vadinar, was awarded the ICC Award For Excellence in Management of Health, Safety & Environment for the year 2010.
The Indian Chemical Council (ICC) is the apex national body representing all branches of the Chemical Industry in India. The ICC National Awards given under various categories are prized by the industry and recognize outstanding achievement by the company.
EOL (Essar Oil) regularly undertakes Environmental Monitoring and has taken noteworthy steps to develop Process Safety Management (PSM). All near-misses / environment deviation / incidents / accidents are analyzed to identify the root cause. The result of the root cause analysis is shared with all the employees. On-site and Off-site Emergency Plans are in place with periodic emergency mock drills carried out after considering all worst case scenarios. The leadership and the employees are engaged in safety and sustainability and there is review of the SHE (Safety, Health & Environment) performance at all levels right up to the board level. In order to restore native ecosystem EOL has voluntarily initiated mangrove afforestation in Vadinar-Salaya belt.
Dr Jayaraman Gopal, Head-HSE, Energy Business and Rajesh Shah, Head-Safety, accepted the award from Chief Guest K Jose Cyriac, Secretary, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Govt of India, at a function organized at the World Trade Centre, Mumbai, on October 21, 2011.
Earlier in the day, Dr Gopal and Mr Shah also delivered a lecture on “Good HSE practices in Essar Oil Ltd” at a seminar coinciding with the awards function.
