Essar Projects and Essar Oil & Gas, were the cynosure of the 7th Asia Gas Partnership Summit (AGPS) 2012, held on March 23-24, 2012, in New Delhi.

The two companies were among the leading participants at the prestigious biennial event, which saw participation from some 400 delegates and speakers from 15 countries, as well as international energy bodies including the International Energy Agency (IEA). The summit was inaugurated by Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh. He was accompanied by Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Jaipal Reddy, and the Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Corporate Affairs, RPN Singh.

At the inaugural ceremony, Dr Singh dedicated the 2,200-km Gas Authority of India (GAIL) Dahej-Vijaipur-Dadri-Bawana-Nangal-Bhatinda pipeline to the nation. The cross-country gas pipeline runs through the North West corridor of India; Essar had executed two stretches of the Vijaypur-Dadri Section.

The Chairman of GAIL, representing the appreciative client at the event, made a special mention to the Mr RPN Singh of Essar Projects’ excellent execution of the EPC contract, during the Minister’s visit to the exhibition hall.

The Pipeline division of Essar Constructions (ECIL), as the company was called then, won the two-part, 48” x 333 km Vijaypur-Dadri pipeline project in September 2008. The Rs 410-crore project, one of ECIL’s most complex projects, involved building the pipeline across diverse terrain that posed many challenges.

The first 169-km stretch (Section A) was inaugurated by BC Tripathi, Chairman and Managing Director, GAIL, on February 25, 2010, at Vijaypur. ECIL commissioned Section C, comprising 163 kms, of the pipeline, on January 17, 2011.
