Every site and facility of Essar implements industry best practices to ensure
that the safety of its employees is never compromised. Whether it is investing
in the latest safety gear, cutting-edge safety management systems, training
programs and collateral or regular safety and health audits, Essar companies
spare no expense to give Essarites a truly world-class workplace.
When it comes to the cause of community health, the companies have taken up the cause with similar zeal. Since most rural areas tend to have low accessibility and thus very limited access to healthcare services, the Foundation has committed significant resources to support both preventive and curative healthcare in such communities.
Its most recent effort is its campaign against child malnutrition that was launched in Jamnagar (Gujarat). The effort will target 5,000 malnourished children of Khambhaliya taluka, an area that has been identified as having the highest number of malnourished children from 0 to 6 years. The project will be implemented a three-month period, during which doctors participate in diagnostic camps and the required supplements will be administered.
The efforts of Essar Steel, which has its beneficiation plant at Dabuna near Katupali (Odisha, India), have helped reduce the casualty rate due to cerebral malaria in the surrounding areas has considerably in recent times. The company's corporate social responsibility team — through its specialized health clinic — is providing healthcare services to nearly 10,000 people in the area. The health clinic, apart from malaria, also caters to other primary diseases like viral fever, fungal infections, cold and cough, joint pain and anemia.
Other efforts undertaken by the Essar Foundation along with Essar companies include blood donation camps, free health vans and ambulance services, health camps and awareness drives to introduce the importance preventative healthcare.
These and the many other activities undertaken by Essar under its sustainability effort reiterate Essar's firm belief that the future and prosperity of a business is intertwined with that of the community and environment in which it operates and serves.
